Apply for the Master of Applied Behaviour Analysis (MABA)

Application deadline: Feb. 1.

We will begin reviewing applications on Feb. 1. Applications will continue to be accepted and evaluated until the 20-person cohort is filled or until April 15, whichever comes first. Early submission is encouraged to secure your spot.

Admission criteria and application procedures

In order to ensure your online application is properly processed, please confirm you have met all the standard graduate school requirements and MABA program-specific requirements outlined below.

Students applying will need:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, or other related fields from an accredited university. Students must evidence a minimum of 24 credit hours of coursework in any combination of Psychology, Sociology, Education, Health, or other Social Science including Social Work.
    • It is preferred that 24 credit hours include coursework in human development (from any discipline) and two additional topics including (from any discipline):
      • Learning theories or behaviour analysis
      • Culture
      • Trauma
      • Systems of Psychotherapy or Care
      • Psychopathology
      • Biological bases of behaviour
      • Exceptionalities
      • Disability Studies

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.3).
    • Competitive applicants will typically have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.*

  • Three letters of recommendation from professionals in your discipline (BCBAs, academicians, employers) who can comment on your work habits and your ability to successfully complete graduate-level work.
    • If a student completed their previous studies within five years of applying to the MABA, they must include at least one academic reference.
    • If a student completed their previous studies over five years ago, it is recommended that at least one letter be an academic reference.
    • All students will be required to submit at least one letter from someone in a supervisory role (advisor, clinical supervisor, etc.) over the student.

  • A personal statement outlining the applicant’s familiarity with applied behaviour analysis, why the applicant is a good fit for the program, and how completing the program fits into their professional goals (maximum 2 pages).

  • Curriculum vitae, showing complete list of awards/honours received, professional presentations and/or publications, relevant volunteer (e.g., crises phone line, summer camp counsellor, research lab, social justice committee) and employment positions (e.g., behaviour interventionist, Registered Behavior Technician, clinical supervisor, resource teacher).

International applicants will also need to demonstrate proficiency in English. The MABA requires the same demonstration of English language proficiency as the School of Graduate Studies.

* While a GPA of 3.5 is considered competitive, it is one of several factors used to assess an applicant’s readiness for graduate study. Applicants with a lower overall GPA—particularly those who demonstrate academic growth in their later coursework, provide strong references, and/or bring relevant professional experience—are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their full application.
