Advising for first-year students

Students already in progress of their BA degree need to register for their courses before seeing the Academic Advisor, Tanya Pitt in Oland Hall, Ground Floor, Room 12.

The Academic Advisor will not select your courses for you but is here to guide you through gathering the information needed so you successfully complete your degree.

Registration

Fall 2022 (22/FA) and Winter 2023 (23/WI) terms will likely open mid-March 2022 for continuing students. The specific date will be announced when known.

For students new to UNB starting in September 2022, registration for Fall 2022 and Winter 2023 will likely open in late May 2022. The specific date will be announced when known.

Use the advising and course groupings sheet to help your selection process.

Using the undergraduate calendar, you can look at course descriptions and determine if there are course prerequisites. Or by using the course catalogue in your My UNB Intranet.

Remember to have with you at the appointment an updated copy of your unofficial UNB transcript, which you can get through your e-services under the academic tab.

Starting the first day of classes, Sept. 8, 2021, you can book your appointment for in-person advising or virtual advising through Teams. Please make sure to indicate your meeting preference when you book your appointment.

Advising appointments from Wednesday, Sept. 8 to Friday, Sept. 17 will be 20 minutes in length, so please come to the appointment prepared with your questions/concerns. Many thanks.

If you email Tanya at sjadvising@unb.ca please be sure that you include your name, student number and your career/educational goals along with the list of courses that you are registered for or are interested in. Tanya will look your selections over and make recommendations based on all of this information.

Due to asthma and allergies please refrain from smoking and wearing perfume, cologne, deodorant, after-shave, body sprays, and other scented products when you come to the office for advising. Thank you.
