Sustainable food

Food nourishes individuals and brings together communities. Food affects our relationships, environments, health, cultures and economies. An area of high interest among students is affordable, sustainable and healthy food options.

UNB offers several different initiatives to increase access to local, healthy and sustainable food.

Free Food Planters

UNB Sustainability plants ten self-watering Free Food Planters around the Fredericton campus, and two self-watering Free Food Planters around the Saint John campus every summer.

Food from our planters is available for anyone to take what they need. You can find the locations of the Free Food Planters on our campus sustainability maps.

Campus community gardens

Located behind Neville Homestead on the Fredericton campus and by the Canada Games Stadium on the Saint John campus are UNB's campus community gardens. Both gardens are open from dawn until dusk and are accessible to students, faculty and staff.

If you are interested in purchasing a garden plot, contact food@unbsu.ca (UNB Fredericton) or sustain@unb.ca (who can connect you to the graden team at UNB Saint John).

UNBSU Food

The UNBSU Food group also offers various food programs.
