Giving to UNB

UNB Giving Day

March 14, 2025, is UNB Giving Day!

UNB Giving Day is an event that encourages our community to come together and support cause-based initiatives that are close to UNB students.

This year we are thrilled to once again support our student-run campus food banks.

The winter semester is often especially difficult for students. The increasing cost of living and the challenges that come with an Atlantic Canadian winter mean that many students are forced to make difficult financial choices.

No one should have to choose between paying a heating bill and affording their next meal. This is why the University of New Brunswick has created a university-wide food security project to help ensure no student is left hungry.

We need your help to make this happen

This year, UNB Giving Day aims to tackle food insecurity across our campuses.

We are all contending with the rising cost of living, and we have seen food prices skyrocket in recent years. Nationwide, almost 40 per cent of post-secondary students are food insecure, and New Brunswick has the second-highest rate of food insecurity in Canada. Fredericton’s largest food bank, Greener Village, has seen a 46 per cent increase in people using its services over the past year, with students one of their most vulnerable groups.

Every dollar counts. Whether you donate $10 or $200, these funds will help keep the food bank shelves stocked.

This initiative to tackle food insecurity is student led. Both the UNBSU on the Fredericton campus and the UNBSRC in Saint John are working to ensure students can focus on their studies without worrying about their next meal.

The SU and SRC have established food banks on both campuses, where they address food insecurity for students directly. They have spaces for the food banks and staff to manage them. They need your help stocking the shelves with food.
