Our doctoral (PhD) program aims to develop students’ skills to undertake independent research work. We also place considerable emphasis on developing your teaching competence. The program is expected to be completed within 4 years, including the required coursework (typically six courses, both core and elective), two comprehensive exams, a teaching apprenticeship and a dissertation.
PhD applicants should hold a master’s degree in sociology, or equivalent, with a cumulative GPA of 3.7 (A-). Students without a MA in sociology may be considered following completion of a qualifying year. Applicants should contact faculty members to ascertain availability and interest in becoming a supervisor.
