Our Master of Arts (MA) program focuses on social theory and social research, including qualitative and quantitative methods.
The emphasis in the MA program is on developing your skills to undertake social research that involves project design, critical thinking, fieldwork or research study, professional writing and high-level analysis – all of which are highly transferrable skills for the job market. The program is expected to be completed within two years, including the required coursework (typically six courses, both core and elective) and a thesis.
MA applicants should hold an undergraduate major or honours degree in sociology, or equivalent and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (B+). Students with an undergraduate degree in a different discipline may be considered following completion of additional courses. Applicants should contact faculty members to ascertain availability and interest in becoming a supervisor.
