UNB Saint John student volunteers gain hands-on experience and build meaningful connections. Mentoring provides local youth with a positive role model, as well as academic and social support.
The Student Mentoring Program pairs UNB Saint John student volunteers with youth from Kindergarten to Grade 5 at Hazen White-St. Francis School for the Promise Partnership lunchtime and after-school programs.
The school is located only a short distance from the university. Mentors provide educational support through engaging in activities designed to assist in developing digital literacy skills (including coding and even Minecraft), social skills and making connections. Sessions run Monday to Thursday through the fall and winter semesters.
Some UNB Saint John students are able to combine their volunteering with completing an Experiential Learning course.
