Reserve your regalia

Information regarding reserving regalia for the ceremony will be provided at a later date.

All graduands attending a ceremony are required to reserve regalia during the specified time. The fee for renting regalia is $60 plus tax. This is the only fee associated with graduation.

Rental gowns, academic caps and hoods will be available for pick up prior to each ceremony on May 28 and 29 in the Alberta Alumni Recreation Centre, first floor, The Richard J. CURRIE CENTER (see ceremony schedule for pick up times).

Gowns and hoods must be returned to the same location following each ceremony. For Bachelor’s and Master’s degree recipients, the souvenir academic cap and tassel are yours to keep. For PhDs, the doctoral academic beefeater cap must be returned.

Graduands will also pick up their parade cards from the Alberta Alumni Recreation Centre before collecting regalia.

Academic dress

Academic dress is worn at graduation ceremonies and includes the gown, academic cap (mortarboard) or beefeater tam, and hood. The regalia worn by each participant depends upon the academic level attained: Bachelors, Masters and Doctorates. See a guide to UNB’s ceremonial dress.

For the Bachelor’s degree recipients, the tassel dangles on the left side of the mortarboard. (This will move to the right side of the cap after your photograph has been taken and after leaving the platform). For Master’s degree recipients, the tassel dangles on the right side of the mortarboard and remains on that side. The top of the cap should rest flat on the head. Those receiving their PhDs wear a beefeater tam.

Bachelor’s hoods are worn with the colour showing only on the left shoulder. Undergraduands receiving more than one degree wear the hood representing their first degree and carry the hood for their second degree on their left arm. Doctoral graduands also carry their hoods on the left arm. Master’s and PhD hoods are worn open on both sides.

First Nations, Inuit and Métis graduands are invited to wear academic dress over their cultural regalia. Members of the military and the RCMP may wear academic dress over their dress uniform.

All UNB graduands must wear appropriate regalia and should consider the distance covered by the procession when selecting footwear.

UNB asks that graduands do not take personal belongings such as purses, backpacks, jackets, flowers, confetti, or balloons into the venue or on the platform.
