We were thrilled to launch the GlobalChild platform: the world’s first comprehensive child rights monitoring tool, on Dec. 13.
The GlobalChild platform has been developed relying upon funds from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Council (SSHRC) granted to Dr. Ziba Vaghri, as the Principal Investigator of the project.
The platform will allow primarily governments, as well as NGOs and other stakeholders, to monitor the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) within their jurisdictions. It will enable them to take an inventory of the structural supports (such as policy and legislation) and process-related supports in place for the implementation of all children’s rights under the CRC.
The platform will also collect data on child-level outcomes and facilitate the examination of the former vis-à-vis the latter data set. Such monitoring will provide governments, and other stakeholders, a better understanding of what policies and programs are in place to support each given right, what may be missing, and how to fill that gap in their capacity while fulfilling their legal obligations under the CRC.
GlobalChild, building upon over a decade of work, has now completed its development phase and is entering the implementation phase. We have already initiated the preparatory phase of the first pilot in the province of New Brunswick in Canada (see the NB-pilot of GlobalChild for more information).
Dec. 13 has a special historical significance for Canadians as it marks the 30th anniversary of Canada ratifying the CRC. On this important day, we invite all people from across our vast country, as well as across the globe, to join us to celebrate the significant amount of work and hope invested in this project and celebrate the birth of the GlobalChild platform: the world’s first comprehensive child rights monitoring platform. The event has been facilitated relying on the SSHRC-Connection grant.
