UNB Law offers a broad experiential learning program that allows students to gain hands-on experience while studying law. The UNB Legal Clinic, for example, allows students to work on actual client files relating to housing/tenant matters, social benefits, employment law, and small claims—all under the supervision of an experienced staff lawyer.
Our experiential program takes full advantage of the natural benefits of Fredericton. Being located in a small provincial capital has allowed us to forge strong ties with the many legal institutions and government agencies that call the city home.
One example of this is our judicial internship program with the New Brunswick Court of Appeal. These internships operate similar to judicial clerkships, offering students the opportunity to observe hearings of selected cases, discuss the arguments with judges, and assist them with research—all while in their upper years of study. This is a rare opportunity among Canadian law schools.
