Candidates for the PhD degree normally hold a master’s degree in geomatics engineering. For some research fields, consideration will be given to applicants whose previous degrees are not in geomatics engineering, but in appropriately related disciplines such as geology, physics, civil engineering, urban planning, geography, computer science, oceanography, and law.
The PhD is a research degree for which a dissertation on original research is required. Completion of four graduate-level courses in the area of the selected major, two courses in the area of a selected minor, and two seminar papers and presentations are also required. Following acceptance, a program of study is laid down by an appropriate supervisory committee for each candidate. The degree is intended to be completed within 12 academic terms. A faculty supervisor is required to be accepted into this program, but no prior arrangement is necessary to apply.
