All research team members, those who are listed within “Section 2 | Safe People” of the Data Access Request (DAR) form, must complete mandatory administrative safeguards before they are granted access to project data or our DataNB Trusted Research Environment (TRE). These include:
Administrative safeguards ensure compliance with privacy legislation, as well as our internal policies and they protect the data in custody at DataNB.
To qualify as a DataNB Approved Data User, the administrative safeguards must be completed. For information on the mandatory administrative safeguards, review our Administrative Safeguard information
If you have any questions, contact us at DAR.DataNB@unb.ca.
Prior to qualifying as an Approved Data User, the following must be completed:
We suggest requesting a criminal record check from your local police station (or RCMP) in the early stages of the DAR approval process as it may take a few weeks to obtain.
Only the standard check is required; you do not need to have a vulnerable sector check done.
We accept an original, photocopied, or scanned and emailed version of your criminal record check. Note: The criminal record check may not be more than one year old.
If you require a letter from us when requesting the completion of your criminal record check, email privacy.datanb@unb.ca.
Our online privacy training sessions are specifically related to accessing and using administrative data for research and program evaluation work (i.e. secondary use).
Email privacy.datanb@unb.ca to register for the privacy training session.
Note: Training takes approximately 45 minutes. Our privacy training session must be completed on an annual basis for the duration of your research project.
All first-time Approved Data Users, those who have never before accessed our NB-IRDT TRE, are required to complete a one-hour training session.
To arrange for training, email dar.datanb@unb.ca: state your name, email address and, if known, the project(s) you are connected with. A member of our staff will reach out to inform you of the next available training date.
Should it be required, TRE orientation may also be arranged. If you are interested email dar.datanb@unb.ca to let us know.
