Family Violence Issues FVI 3007 Three (3) credit hours

This course examines issues pertaining to violence in religious families and the role of faith communities (and their leaders) in responding to violence in the family context. The course will consider relevant data, theories and strategies for change.

This course is cross listed as SOCI 3007. Credit can only be obtained for one of FVI 3007 and SOCI 3007.

Prerequisite: 3 ch in Sociology or permission of the instructor.

  • This is a core course for the Family Violence Issues Certificate Program at UNB.
  • The course introduces learners to elements of a collaborative community response to family violence that includes religion.
  • Learners will become more familiar with the religious diversity which is an important part of the Canadian multicultural milieu.

Students have six months from the registration date to complete the course. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by the designated end date.

Assignments and examinations

  • 3 x quizzes (15%)
  • 12 x written assignments (85% total)
