This seminar is also offered as part of the Human Resources Management Program.

Performance Management is critical to meeting your organization's business goals. In this seminar, you will learn about the importance of employee appraisal, issues that influence the selection of a performance appraisal system and commonly used appraisal methods.

You will also become familiar with methods for avoiding rater bias and discuss the role of the Human Resources (HR) professional in appraisal systems, including the challenges involved in coaching and supporting management and employees.

Upon successful completion of this seminar, you will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of employee appraisals
  • Recognize issues that influence the selection of a performance appraisal system
  • Identify commonly used appraisal methods
  • Identify methods for avoiding rater bias
  • Understand the role of the HR professional in appraisal systems

About the instructor

Jason Scarbro has his CHRP designation and is the Director of Human Resources at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, N.B. Celebrating its centenary in 2010, St. Thomas is an undergraduate, liberal arts institution with a student enrolment of 2,500 and a faculty/staff complement of over 300.

Jason has led the HR Department at St. Thomas since 2006 and has previously led HR teams in a variety of manufacturing sectors since entering the Human Resources profession in 1999.

He is currently the president of the Fredericton Chapter of the Human Resources Association of New Brunswick and a member of the Association’s Provincial Executive.
