On July 1, the Associated Alumni welcomed its new president, Peter Syroid (BScEng’98, MBA‘03), who began his two-year term. He is a proud two-time UNB alumnus with a strong family legacy at UNB. An avid volunteer with the Alumni Office, he has served as an alumni councillor since 2015 and has volunteered extensively throughout the university community.
UNB has had a large impact on my life and means a great deal to me. When I began attending some of the Associated Alumni events, I realized how much they make a difference by bringing students, alumni and UNB together. These are dedicated people, who do great work on behalf of a wonderful university. There came a point where I wanted to join the Associated Alumni to be a part of that work.
I’m a strong believer in the value of higher education. It can transform lives through personal growth and development, while also contributing to economic and social prosperity. As someone who benefited from mentors while I was a student at UNB, I realize how engagement with alumni can have a powerful impact. It’s an honour to now be in a position to support and mentor our students, while also celebrating the many accomplishments of our alumni.
