Students wishing to pursue an undergraduate degree in engineering technology at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) have two options:
The BEVT program is a two-year post-diploma bachelor’s degree focused on the practical aspects of implementing and managing environmental systems and technologies.
Students will learn hands-on application of technologies and processes for environmental protection.
The program covers a range of topics—from life-cycle analysis and environmental impact assessment to the design of industrial wastewater treatment processes and waste containment systems.
BEVT graduates will be able to help develop clean energy sources, reduce our environmental footprint and protect our ecosystem, resources and public health.
The BIDT program is a two-year post-diploma bachelor’s degree focused on the study of equipment, information, human behaviour and modes of communication to develop processes that work.
Industrial engineering technologists consider human factors when employing manufacturing processes and apply these disciplines to service systems, such as government, hospitals, banks and other service sector organizations. The BIDT program will place emphasis on applying existing technologies to real-world problems.
Graduates from this program will be qualified for careers in a wide variety of industrial or public sectors. They will learn from experts on topics such as industrial processes, quality control, project management and technical problem-solving.
Both the BEVT and BIDT programs can be completed part-time, making them flexible and practical options for learners who wish to achieve a university degree while working in a relevant field. This flexibility and the modular nature of the program will appeal to non-traditional learners in engineering technology.
The BEVT and BIDT programs focus on practical engineering technology and engineering management, providing graduates with a clear path into engineering technology management.
The Saint John region has well-established oil and gas facilities, transport companies, a large hospital and a mix of heavy and light industry and large and small plants. This, combined with the education model for these programs, aims to create a future talent pipeline for both local and global businesses.
The BEVT and BIDT programs were developed in direct response to industry demands. Graduates will be equipped to address current and future challenges in the environmental engineering technology and industrial engineering technology sectors.
The BIDT and BEVT programs do not lead to professional engineer (PEng) licensure, though the programs and course learning objectives have been carefully designed to align with Engineers Canada competencies. Graduates will be positioned for future competency-based licensure on a case-by-case basis and will also meet the eligibility requirements to enter a master of engineering program.
