About RIDSAI

Since 2023, the Research Institute in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (RIDSAI) has been home to leading UNB experts in the research, application and impact of data science and artificial intelligence. Our grant program encourages collaboration between researchers and industry partners for the benefit of our community and our region.

This institute provides a platform for multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary projects, taking UNB’s theoretical and applied research in AI and data science to the next level. Our goal is to address some of the major challenges society is facing and ensure the ethical and respectful use of AI and data science for social good.

To drive innovations in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science through research, development, and applications that enhance societal well-being, advancing public and private sector performance, from local communities to global industries.

To advance the frontiers of Artificial Intelligence & Data Science by engaging in impactful research that addresses the needs of the public and private sectors, and society at large.

We are dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, cultivating diverse talent, and developing innovations that tackle critical global challenges.

Mandate

  • Lead research: Drive interdisciplinary research in AI & Data Science with a focus on producing innovative solutions that deliver measurable societal, technological, and economic impact.

  • Support industry: Forge strategic partnerships with industry to align research with real-world needs, accelerate knowledge transfer, and support commercialization of innovative AI & Data Science solutions.

  • Foster collaboration: Promote and coordinate cross-disciplinary and external collaboration through joint research programs, partnerships, and innovation networks.

  • Develop talent: Attract, mentor, and train diverse talent by providing education, research opportunities, and clear pathways for career advancement in AI & Data Science.

  • Address societal needs: Align research with societal challenges—particularly those impacting vulnerable populations—while upholding the highest ethical standards in addressing global issues such as healthcare, sustainability, and inequality.

  • Ensure sustainability: Secure and effectively manage resources through strategic funding, partnerships, and commercialization initiatives to ensure the institute’s long-term growth and sustainability.

  • Empower decision makers: Serve as a trusted advisor on AI policy and governance by providing decision-makers with expert analysis, data-driven insights, and ethical guidelines to shape local, national, and international AI policies.

  • Promote ethics & responsibility: Ensure that all research, partnerships, and operational activities adhere to the highest ethical standards, promoting sensitivity, awareness, dignity, and respect across all endeavors.
