UNB ITE Student Chapter

The UNB ITE Student Chapter was founded in January 2010 by members of the University of New Brunswick’s Transportation Group. The Student Chapter is a welcomed addition to the UNB Transportation Group, which has been providing education for transportation professionals since 1968.

The UNB ITE Student Chapter consists of both undergraduate and graduate students who have a keen interest in the transportation industry. The students meet a few times each month to participate in transportation-related activities and events including field trips, seminars, and conferences.

This allows undergraduate students who think they may be interested in transportation engineering to see what this field has to offer as a possible career choice. It also allows those students already enrolled in a graduate program to keep in touch with fellow students and local industry professionals.

Current executive

  • Chapter Advisors: Dr. Eric Hildebrand and Dr. Trevor Hanson
  • President: Barry Riordon, briordon@unb.ca
  • Vice-President: Alex Gallant
  • Secretary and Treasurer: William Morrison

UNB Transportation Field School Students in a train tunnel in Stuttgart 21

Since 2022, UNB Civil Engineering students have been invited to participate in an annual Transportation Field School to HFT Stuttgart (Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences) in Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. HFT Stuttgart is a partner university, allowing students short term study exchanges.

The Field School involves attendance at the HFT Stuttgart International Summer School, a nine day program including classroom workshops, lectures, and excursions and students can earn course credit at UNB. Priority is given to students who are registered in or have taken:

  • CE5203/6203 Transportation Planning and all students must have successfully completed
  • CE3201 Introduction to Transportation Engineering prior to attending

Students are responsible for their own expenses.
