Carleton County
Carleton is a primarily agricultural county along the St John River, with some settlements deeper into the uplands crossing over into the upper Miramichi watershed. Carleton County is today known for its rural beauty as well as being the headquarters of McCain Foods in Florenceville-Bristol.
Carleton County boasts a history going beyond the Seven Years’ War with the earliest European settlement possibly going as far back as the seventeenth century. In the decades following the establishment of the United States, Carleton County hosted British garrisons that protected the new border. During the First and Second World Wars several regiments were called up from the town of Woodstock and surrounding areas and other auxiliary operations were established throughout the county.
