About Petra Hauf

Dr. Petra Hauf is the inaugural provost & vice-president academic at UNB. In her new role she serves as the chief academic officer and delivers the academic mission at the university’s two main campuses in Fredericton and Saint John and the Moncton site. She is a dynamic leader with a dedicated team of deans and vice-provosts who oversee academic faculties, libraries, student affairs, experiential education, recruitment and all functions related to the successful achievement of UNB’s Toward 2030 Strategic Plans.

Prior to her appointment in November 2023, Dr. Hauf served as the vice-president Saint John at UNB, a position she held since March 2019. In that role she was actively engaged in all campus affairs, including academics, administration and operations. She spearheaded the successful launch of several campus renewal projects including a new residence and the Health and Social Innovation Centre.

She has championed the Integrated Health Initiative which will transform the health care sector through the delivery of interdisciplinary education, leading-edge research and innovation and fostering collaboration among health research professionals. These innovative approaches will significantly impact and benefit the region, the province and the country.

Upon arrival in New Brunswick, Dr. Hauf quickly became a strong champion for the community through participation in various volunteer boards and activities in support of Saint John and the surrounding areas.

Dr. Hauf joined UNB from St. Francis Xavier University where she was the first female dean of science and the acting director of the Rankin School of Nursing. Under her leadership, several successful interdisciplinary programs were introduced.

Throughout her tenure at StFX, she was appointed the Canada Research Chair in Cognitive Development and she continued her NSERC-funded research on the role of motor skills for perceptual, social and cognitive development during the first years of life until recently.
