Student preparation and oversight in clinical environment for final integrated practicum.



Course Description

This concentrated practicum course provides an opportunity for the synthesis on the specialized knowledge, skill and judgement inherent in the role of the Nurse Practitioner within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team setting.  Facilitated by a faculty advisor and clinical preceptor, the student assumes responsibility for providing primary care to culturally diverse clients across the life span.  In addition to the clinical hours of the practicum, the course includes a seminar component that addresses professional, philosophical and ethical issues related to the role of the Nurse Practitioner.  This practicum includes a minimum of 300 hours of supervised clinical practice in the role of Nurse Practitioner.



Qualifications

A Masters of Nursing Nurse Practitioner Degree and active registration with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick is required; current CPR-HCP (also accept BLS for Healthcare Providers).  Relevant clinical experience in primary health care/generalist family all ages practice.



Additional Notes

In this concentrated practicum course students work 1:1 with a NP or Physician Practice mentor.  This course is sectioned meaning that you will be responsible for overseeing the concentrated practicum course for one half of the students in the current cohort.
