About the Department of French

The Department of French welcomes students who want to learn and master the language, while pursuing their studies in literature and linguistics.

You will discover the cultures of the Francophone world, such as Canada, France and Africa. Our classes will help you develop essential skills in communication and analytical thinking.

We offer a range of courses in:

• Acadian and Québécois literature and culture
• French literature
• African literature
• women's writing
• linguistics (i.e. expressions of French Canada and contemporary theories of language)

Studying French provides an excellent background for careers in fields such as education, business, translation, communication and journalism or public service. Our program also prepares students interested in graduate studies.
