About the Department of Economics

Our department is located within the Faculty of Arts at the University of New Brunswick. We offer undergraduate programs to students in three different faculties (arts, management and science). Our Masters of Arts in Economics graduate program attracts students from all over the world.

What is economics?

Economics in practice is structured thinking based on stated models of rational choices and behaviours by firms and households.

It entails:

• Describing economic events
• Explaining why they occur
• Predicting whether they might occur in the future
• Recommending appropriate course of action to policy-makers

Economics graduates have broad skill sets that are highly valued in the labour market. They are recognized for their analytical thinking and their numeracy, particularly with respect to statistical analysis.

Careers in economics

Our graduates have gone on to work in a variety of fields after graduation, such as government, academia, banking and consulting.
