Dr. Murshed Chowdhury is currently an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, Canada. His research and teaching interests encompass open economy macroeconomics, development economics, financial regulations, financial flows to developing countries, and information and communication technology. He has published extensively in journals including the European Journal of Political Economy, Empirical Economics, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Canadian Public Policy, Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, Journal of Economics and Business, Journal of Economic Studies, Journal of International Development, International Journal of Social Economics, Journal of Knowledge Economy, Journal of Risk and Financial Management.

Before joining to the University of New Brunswick, Dr. Chowdhury taught at several institutions across countries, including Algoma University, King’s University College at Western University, University of Manitoba, Chongqing Technology and Business University, and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. He also served as a consultant for United Nations Development Programme.

Throughout his career, Dr. Chowdhury has supervised numerous graduate students and engaged in various collaborative projects. He has received multiple research grants and served as a reviewer for the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), federal funding agency of Canada. Additionally, he has been an active reviewer for many journals and served as a guest editor for the Journal of Risk and Financial Management.

Dr. Chowdhury is a dedicated and passionate educator. His students and peers consistently praise his teaching pedagogy and engaging classroom discussions he fosters. His commitment to teaching was recognized with the prestigious Allan P. Stuart Award Memorial Award of Excellence in Teaching at the 195th Encenia ceremony of the University of New Brunswick.

Dr. Chowdhury’s service to the academic community and beyond is evident in his long-standing role as a faculty advisor for the Bank of Canada’s Governor Challenge competition. In addition to his involvement in various committees, Dr. Chowdhury currently serves as a member of UNB senate.
