We provide a fun, creative, and supportive environment with time for recreation and socialising so that you can make friends for life while heightening your confidence and creativity.

Our award-winning instructors come from around the globe excited to broaden your musical horizons.

Calling all middle-school trumpeters and trombonists

For ages 11 – 14, who have one to two years’ experience on trumpet or trombone.

UNB Music Camps presents an opportunity for these young musicians to meet and play alongside their peers. During the week you’ll find yourself strengthening your knowledge of your instrument, as well as your reading and theory skills.

Develop your musical ear, learn about great brass players, gain concert stage experience and etiquette, all while working together toward a final ensemble performance in the theatre.

Get a head start on next year’s band programming, or simply improve upon what you’ve already begun to learn and meet some new friends along the way.

Meet your instructor

David Garson holds a Bachelor of Music (Performance) from the University of Victoria and Master of Music (Performance) from Northwestern University (Chicago).

He has performed with a variety of orchestras and ensembles including Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, National Ballet Orchestra of Canada Orchestra, Roy Thomson Hall Orchestra, Hannaford Street Silver Band, Symphony Nova Scotia, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. David has also toured with the Canadian Opera Co Orchestra to New York and the Edinburgh Festival.

David’s teaching experience is varied and includes teaching trumpet at the Atlantic Band Festival (Halifax) and Vic Lewis Band Festival (Banff). He has given masterclasses across Canada and was a faculty member at Memorial University of Newfoundland and trumpet instructor at Upper Canada College (Toronto).

He has also recorded for CBC Radio and Television, BBC Radio and Video Arts International. Currently, David teaches brass in Fredericton and is the Technical Services Manager at the Fredericton Playhouse.


Embark on a rhythmic journey beyond the ordinary - a unique experience designed for anyone curious about drumming

For ages 9 - 13

This fun and immersive camp caters to a diverse group of musical backgrounds, offering a comprehensive exploration of rhythm, theory and technique. Participants will dive into basics of snare drum rudiments, keyboard percussion techniques, and will learn various Ddum set fundamentals and grooves.

Campers will also gain hands-on experience with numerous percussion instruments found in most concert band and orchestral ensembles. They will rehearse daily and perform as a part of a percussion ensemble, fostering teamwork and improving overall musical proficiency and listening skills.

Drumming Discovery Camp ensures an inclusive environment where everyone regardless of prior experience can thrive.

Meet your instructor

Ian Gibson

Ian Gibson, based in Rothesay, New Brunswick, is a percussionist whose skills have been honed by studying under world renowned instructors like Russell Hartenberger, Robin Engelman, John Rudolph, Beverley Johnston and Alan Abel.

In 2004, Ian completed his Master of Music in Performance from the University of Toronto, following the completion of his Bachelor's degree in Music-Performance in 2002, also from the University of Toronto.

Between 2005 and 2017, Ian contributed significantly to music education at Cambrian College, Laurentian University, and the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra, holding positions as Head of Percussion Studies, Classical Percussion Instructor and Principal Percussionist/Timpanist.

Ian currently works as the Percussion Teaching Artist in Saint John with Sistema New Brunswick. He is also the Percussion Section Coach for both the Saint John Youth Orchestra and the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra.

Some noteworthy performance highlights include:

  • World Premier: “Rosewood Dreaming” by Bill Cahn (Marimba Concerto Full Orchestral Version) with Sudbury Symphony Orchestra
  • Canadian Premier Concerto for Marimba, Percussion and Choir by Gene Koshinski
  • Clinician and Performer at New York City Day of Percussion
  • Performed with NEXUS in a showcase concert at the 2002 Percussive Arts Society International Convention Ian proudly endorses Sabian Cymbals, Pearl Drums, Adams Percussion and Innovative Percussion.

Serious about pushing your musical skills?

For ages 12 - 17

UNB Music Camp’s Strings Academy Camp is designed for the more dedicated student who wishes to have a comprehensive musical training.

Over 5 days instructors will enhance individual playing with larger conducted ensembles and small chamber groups, as well as theory and aural training, providing the learning that will prepare these young musicians for continued success.

This camp is for students with the interest in taking their musicianship to the next level, to maximize their enjoyment and open future doors for themselves.

Meet your instructor

Natalia Delacroix

Natalia Delacroix has had an international career as a performer and pedagogue. Natalia was educated at the Central Music School for Talented Children and at the Moscow State Conservatory of Tchaikovsky in a Viola class. There, she received an honors degree in teaching, orchestral music, solo and chamber music.

She began teaching viola at the Moscow State Conservatory at the age of 19 as an assistant of Professor Galina Odinets. She also taught as a violin teacher at a Central music school in Moscow.

In addition to teaching, she performed concerts as a soloist and chamber musician. She also secured a job as Artist of the State Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Evgeny Svetlanov.

Camps will be held on the UNB Fredericton Campus, either at Marshall d'Avray Hall or Memorial Hall. Please check the individual camp pages for exact room numbers.

First day

Every day

  • Lunch and snacks (no nut or shellfish products)
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Instrument and all necessary accessories (puck/rosin/mouthpieces/reeds)
  • Any required music
  • Sneakers and appropriate clothing
  • Sunscreen

Some camp-specific items (instrument, laptop, etc.) are required for different camps. These items are listed in each camp description. If you need to rent an instrument for camp (free of charge), please let us know in your registration form.

Please note that due to severe allergies, we cannot allow shellfish and nuts of any kind (including their products, such as peanut butter, etc.) at the camps. Thank you for your cooperation. Parents must inform staff if their child has any special dietary restrictions or health concerns.


Schedules will vary from camp to camp, but here is a general schedule:

  • 7:45 to 9 a.m. | drop off
  • 9 a.m. | instruction
  • 10:15 a.m. | break (outside)
  • 10:30 a.m. | instruction
  • 12 p.m. | lunch
  • 1 p.m. | instruction
  • 2:30 p.m. | break (outside)
  • 3:45 p.m. | instruction
  • 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. | pick up

During summer camps, drop-off and pick-up will take place in front of either Memorial Hall or Marshall d'Avray Hall on the UNB Fredericton Campus. Camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an hour lunch break, as well as a morning and afternoon break of approximately 15 minutes.

Important: If there is any reason why you need to drop your child off earlier or pick them up later, we must be notified beforehand, and we will try to make arrangements.

Drop-off time is between 7:45 to 9 a.m.

Our camp staff will meet you there to get your children signed in. Please allow for extra time at drop-off on the first day.

If you are running late or your child will not be attending camp on a certain day, please call 506-458-7259 and let us know. If you arrive late, please stay outside in the drop-off area and call 506-458-7259 and someone will come out to meet you.

Pick-up time for children is between 4 to 5 p.m.

Pick-up will occur at the same location as drop-off. Please make sure to sign your children out at the end of the day.

If you need to sign your children out early, call us at 506-458-7259 when you arrive and a staff member will bring them out to you.

There is a $10 late pick-up fee for any time after 5 p.m. (within the first 30 minutes) and $10 for every half hour after.


A limited number of scholarships are available for students in financial need. Parents wishing to obtain a scholarship should contact us at (506) 458-7259 or musicamp@unb.ca.


Participants wishing to withdraw from a music camp must do so in writing by emailing musicamp@unb.ca.

  • Refund requests made more than three weeks (21 days) before the camp start date are eligible for a full refund, minus a $50 administration fee.
  • Refund requests made 20 days or less before the camp start date are eligible for a 50% refund.
  • Withdrawal on the camp start date or after: no refunds except for medical reasons. All medical requests must be made in writing and be fully supported and documented by a practicing medical physician with the Medical Association.

Important: If public health restrictions are reinstated that prevent us from holding in-person camps, full refunds will be provided.
