This course is an introduction to the main theories, research approaches and intervention perspectives of clinical psychology. Topics include professional issues in clinical psychology, concepts and history of abnormality, assessment and diagnosis of psychological disorders and modes of psychotherapy. This course is intended to expose the student to the basic concepts, theories, and issues in psychopathology and psychotherapy for more advanced courses in the clinical domain.
The instructor of this course is an expert in clinical psychology, with over 20 years of clinical and teaching experience. The course provides web links, videos, and learning activities to enhance learning and fulfills three of the 12 required credits in foundations courses toward a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of New Brunswick. This course is also a prerequisite for all upper-year clinically focused courses (e.g., adult or child psychopathology, psychotherapy).
