Ethics of Life and Death

Philosophy	PHIL 1201	Three (3) credit hours

This course helps students become familiar with the nature of moral philosophy, some challenges to morality, some of the most influential moral theories and some contemporary moral issues concerning life and death - abortion, euthanasia, political violence, animal rights and world hunger. The course aims at removing common confusions about those issues and reaching reasonable conclusions about them.

What you will learn

This course is designed to help you:

• Engage in debate about controversial moral issues in a reasonable, impartial, and calm manner and make sensible decisions in relevant circumstances.
• Develop a holistic outlook on matters of life and death.
• Learn through one-on-one student-instructor dialogue and an interactive forum.

Students have six months from the registration date to complete the course. All course exams and assignments must be completed by the designated end date.

Assignments and examinations

• 7 x assignments (78% total - Each assignment consists of 2 or 3 parts)
• 1 x participation (14% total - Contribute to course discussions by addressing the discussion items)
• 1 x case study (5% - Choose 1 case study and respond to the relevant questions)
• 1 x mind map (3% - Create a diagram for the material from a module)
