Introduction to Calculus II

Math MATH 1013 Three (3) credit hours

This course is the sequel to MATH 1003. It will focus on integrals: definition and relation to the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, techniques of integration, numerical integration and applications of integration. Taylor Series and improper integrals will also be covered. The last section of the course will introduce ordinary differential equations.

In this course, students are introduced to single variable integral calculus and will explore all topics typically covered in a standard introductory course in integral calculus. This course is also accepted for credit transfer to most postsecondary institutions in Canada.

Specific prerequisites for each campus:

UNB Fredericton campus:
MATH 1003 or MATH 1053. Note that neither MATH 1823 nor MATH 1843 fully prepares students for MATH 1013; consult the Department of Mathematics and Statistics for advice. Note: Credit may be obtained for only one of MATH 1013 or MATH 1063

UNB Saint John campus:
A grade of C or higher in MATH 1003: Introduction to Calculus I; or a grade of B or higher in MATH 1001: Calculus For Life Sciences

Students have six months from the registration date to complete the course. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by the designated end date.

Assignments and examinations

  • 23 x assignments (10% total)
  • 4 x quizzes (5% total)
  • 3 x tests (15% total)
  • 1 x final exam (invigilated, 70% total)*

*A passing mark on the Final is a necessary condition to pass the course.

The final exam for this course is a hand written, paper-based exam and needs to be invigilated (in-person) at an approved time and location. All fees associated with examinations written at other locations outside of the UNB campuses are the student’s responsibility.
