Family Violence Issues	FVI 2003	Three (3) credit hours

This is a core course for the Family Violence Issues Certificate Program at UNB but can be taken separately from the Certificate Program. This course address and identifies gender stereotypes that directly lead to gender-based cyber violence and the ways in which these ideologies set the stage for victim blaming discourses. Within this course you will learn about gender hate speech, cyber exploitation and blackmail, non-consensual intimate photo sharing, misogyny, swatting, doxing, trolling, etc.

This course is cross listed as SOCI 2003. Credit can only be obtained for one of FVI 2003 and SOCI 2003.

What you will learn

This course is designed to help you:

• Understand how gender stereotypes and ideologies are directly related to cyberviolence.
• Learn about the many forms of cyberviolence using relevant examples and theory.
• Gain skills in preventing cyberviolence, assisting those who experience it, and protecting yourself against it.

Students have six months from the registration date to complete the course. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by the designated end date.

Assignments and examinations

• 10 x module assignments (70% total)
• 10 x journal reflection (10% total)
• 1 x research paper (20% total)
