This course will develop the students understanding of the issues surrounding the idea of sustainability as presented in the United Nations report published by the World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED 1987) also known as the Brundtland Report – Our Common Future http://www.un-documents.net/wced-ocf.htm. The course revolves around the three main interlocking concepts presented in the report (See Fig.1 below): environmental, social and economic sustainability and their relationship. The course will concentrate on how the global ideas presented in the WCED and related documents can be most efficiently applied in businesses of all sizes. Classes will consist of case studies, lectures, student presentation and an individual research report. |
