Obesity is associated with a higher risk for developing cardiovascular complications such as coronary heart disease, atrial fibrillation and heart failure, and is believed to be a risk factor in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. While obesity is known to adversely affect short term outcomes in our patient population, less is known about its long-term effects. Using a retrospective design, this study will determine how obesity independently affects long-term outcomes and time-to-adverse events, such as mortality and hospital readmission.
