We are happy to announce that the New Brunswick Institute for Research, Data and Training has partnered with the Department of Political Science at the University of New Brunswick to launch a new undergraduate course starting in January 2023: Pathways to Policies.
POLS 3216: Pathways to Policies is a third-year undergraduate course at UNB that explores the process of using data to inform policy making. Students who enroll will explore data-informed decision making while working in teams to solve a real-world, New Brunswick-based problem and developing intra-personal and professional skills. Using publicly available data, and with course content that supports their problem-solving process, students will work towards creating their own unique solutions and recommendations for presentation to a group of stakeholders from academia, government, and industry. Classes will be taught by UNB faculty at NB-IRDT, with support from the Department of Political Science.
Pathways to Policies is a for-credit adaptation of NB-IRDT’s popular experiential learning program Pathways to Professions. As such, in addition to gaining training in evidence-informed decision making, students will also develop professional skills to help them transition to the workplace after graduation.
