The University of New Brunswick (UNB) Libraries invites applications for the tenure track position of Open Scholarship and Applied Sciences Librarian to commence by January 1, 2024, subject to final budgetary approval. Review of applications will begin on October 10, 2023 and continue until the position is filled. As a member of the UNB Libraries team, the incumbent will report to the Dean of Libraries with responsibilities overseen by the Associate Dean, the Director of Learning and Engagement, and the Director of Collections Strategy and Scholarly Communication.
The Open Scholarship and Applied Sciences Librarian will have a university-wide role in supporting open scholarship, data management, and publishing with an emphasis on the STEM disciplines. The Librarian will have responsibilities related to the Faculties of Computer Science and Engineering, including library instruction for undergraduate and graduate students and provision of expert research and information services. The incumbent will work in close collaboration with UNB's Scholarly Communications Librarian and with Liaison librarian colleagues in developing and curating collections to meet research and learning needs.
In addition, this role will undertake service and leadership activities locally, regionally, and potentially beyond as circumstances require and allow. The successful librarian will be highly flexible, creative, able to innovate, adapt and thrive in a university environment undergoing significant internal transformation, strongly committed to growing research, and prepared to anticipate the changing needs of our students and faculty researchers.
Librarians participate in the development of UNB Libraries programs, services, policies, and procedures. Responsibility for the coordination and management of students, services, or projects may be required. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. The nature and scope of responsibilities for this and other library positions are expected to change as the UNB Libraries system evolves.

Representative Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides expertise to faculty, staff, and students about scholarly communication issues and the responsible use of resources in academic settings; supports researchers in publishing and other forms of scholarly communication.
- Develops and delivers digital and information literacy instruction and research support in a variety of learning approaches and modes.
- Collaboratively develops and delivers instructional curricular and course content, including course-specific research guides with instructors and librarian colleagues.
- Maintains current awareness of curricular changes and engages in curriculum updates with instructors to ensure there is alignment and integration of library teaching with course content and learning objectives.
- Provides research and reference services to students, faculty, and staff in-person and online.
- Develops and assesses library collections in assigned areas, employing criteria appropriate to academic libraries.
- Maintains current expertise of research methods and tools in assigned liaison areas.
- Maintains currency in scholarly issues to be able to engage knowledgeably with researchers.
- Contributes to the goals and strategic initiatives of UNB Libraries.
- Contributes professional expertise in service activities that benefit the Libraries, the University, professional or off-campus communities through, for example: participating on teams, committees, and other work groups; undertaking cooperative initiatives in partnership with university colleagues; participating in training or teaching programs.
- Participates in professional development and research activities that advance professional growth.
- Demonstrates strong leadership, including a commitment to equity, shared responsibility, and accountability.

Qualifications:
- MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution.
- A degree in a relevant discipline and/or relevant professional experience in an academic Library.
- Expertise in Strong level of knowledge and interest in open scholarship, data management, and publishing preferably in the STEM disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective educational and training sessions in person, online, and asynchronously using current technology and teaching techniques.
- Demonstrated commitment to student academic success.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, researchers, and students at all levels.
- Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, both orally and written.
- Ability to adapt to changing environments and multiple deadlines, and to work well under pressure with discretion, tact, and good judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, and to recognize and anticipate what needs to be done.
- Flexibility, creativity, and ability to innovate and adapt positively in a continually evolving environment.
