Aarhus UniversityNordre Ringgade 1 DK-8000 Aarhus CThe vibrant city of Aarhus was founded over 1000 years ago by the Vikings and now, with a population in excess of 250,000, is the second largest city in Denmark. Aarhus is beautiful waterfront city offering all the usual city comforts of restaurants, cafes, theatres, shopping centres and nightclubs. Cultural events take place year round, and the city has an international reputation as a live music venue. The most effective way to get around the city is by bus or bicycle, which allows you to take advantage of Aarhus' 15-25 degree summers. Darkness during the nighttime only lasts for a few hours during the summer, as Denmark is a northern country. Winter in Aarhus is seldom severe, with temperatures between plus or minus 5 degrees. The university itself is the second oldest university in Denmark, located on a park-like campus combining a country setting with all the advantages of city living. The campus has only been slightly modified over the years, with waterfront buildings helping to create the harmonious balance of sunlit beaches, refreshing green woods and architecturally unique buildings. |

TestimonialDanielle Sharp, BA.(Hon)PLTS 2007, on exchange in Winter 2006. "I went to Denmark with no expectations except for to have a good time; I was not disappointed. I enjoyed my classes, the city and country, but most of all it was the people I met. The friendships I made there are what studying abroad is really about. You learn more from meeting people than you do from a book. Between get-togethers and going for bike rides you learn so much but are having such a great time that you don’t notice anything until you are back in Canada." |

TestimonialErin Bowlen, BA.CLS-S.LING 2009, on exchange in Fall 2007 and Winter 2008.
I learned so many things while I was away that it would be hard to fit it all down on paper. This was an amazing experience for me as I was able to meet so many people from different countries around the world who I still keep in touch with even though I have been back in Canada now for 7 months. I was very lucky to be able to participate in a language program offered by the university which helped me to learn Danish, as well as allowing me to go on different field trips to see different parts of Denmark. The people in Denmark are so friendly, and it is true that they really are the happiest people in the world! I would recommend going on an exchange to Denmark to anyone and everyone. I really appreciate Scotiabank’s effort to fund exchanges like mine, as it is a learning experience that I will never forget." |
