Colleen A. (Bustin) Cook (RN, BN) graduated from the Miss A.J. MacMaster School of Nursing in 1976. Over the next 40 years she worked at the Moncton Hospital in Oncology, the Burn Unit, the Eye Clinic and, lastly, as a discharge planner until her death in 2018. She did the work that she loved and was skilled at helping those who were sick or afraid or just trying to take care of themselves. She remembered everyone and greeted all with a smile and a friendly word. She made everyone feel important and appreciated.
Colleen was always busy. She volunteered at the Capitol Theatre in Moncton and was involved in music and children’s events at her church. She had a soft spot for animals and supported the SPCA and the Atlantic Wildlife Institute. She was always willing to help anyone and cared tirelessly for her aging mother. She was a gifted, hardworking nurse and her life will be her legacy.
Friends and family of Colleen have honoured her dedication to her career by establishing the Colleen Cook Memorial Scholarship for students entering their second year of the Bachelor of Nursing Advanced Standing Program on UNB’s Moncton campus.
