Adrian Robertson of Mississauga, Ontario, arrived at UNB with a powerful slapshot, an aptitude for business and a commitment to his community. It did not take long for him to fall in love with the Fredericton campus, where he juggled business administration courses while playing a significant role on the men’s hockey championship team and volunteering in various youth programs in the city.
Adrian believes none of these opportunities would have happened without the generosity of university donors who fund athletic programs and awards that helped enable him to succeed.
“It makes you feel important that people are putting faith in you to carry on the tradition of the university,” he said. “To me, it is humbling. It is what really drives me to create my own legacy coming out of university and to make those people proud.”
Adrian was one of eight athletes from across the country awarded the Governor General’s Academic All-Canadian commendation by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston. He was also part of the 2013 University Cup national championship team in men’s hockey and is a volunteer coach for youth players in the V-Reds Prospects camps.
“The one thing that really stands out for me is the sense of community around the university,” he says. “It is the sense of belonging to something special.”
