Our research is geared towards understanding the fundamental structure and properties of small, gas-phase, metal-bearing radicals using laser spectroscopy. Two types of molecules are targeted: a) diatomic metal species, and b) small metal bearing polyatomics. The molecules are produced in a molecular beam and excited with a laser to higher energy states from which they can decay back to lower levels by emitting light. By analyzing this emitted light, a detailed picture of the bonding, structure and interactions in the molecules can be obtained.
