MBA Director

Shelley Rinehart is a Professor of Marketing and MBA Director in the Faculty of Business at UNB Saint John. She also served as the Deputy Mayor of the City of Saint John after being elected with a record setting number of votes in the 2012 Municipal Election.

Dr. Rinehart teaches a variety of Marketing courses at the undergraduate, graduate and executive education levels. Her favourite courses are Consumer Behaviour and Marketing Management where she is able to use a variety of activities, experiments and computer simulations as part of the course curriculum.

Dr. Rinehart also offers her support to students outside of the classroom. She is a volunteer coordinator of post-secondary education for the Saint John SeaDogs, the local QMJHL team and has coached student teams for a variety of academic competitions.

Dr. Rinehart has returned full time to UNB Saint John after a serving the Province of New Brunswick on a 4 year secondment as the Executive Director of Policy Development and Planning with the Provincial Department of Energy. While on secondment Dr. Rinehart was involved in a variety of policy development and legislative activities and Federal, Provincial and Territorial committees. Following her secondment, Dr. Rinehart remains actively engaged with the Department of Energy and serves as the Provincial representative on the Energy Council's the Board of the Committee for Legislative Environmental and Energy Research, an international organization.

Dr. Rinehart has held a number of administrative roles within UNB Saint John. Prior to her secondment to government, she served six and one half years as Dean of the Faculty of Business. Dr. Rinehart has also served as Director of the Electronic Commerce Centre and the Co-Operative Education Program in the Faculty of Business at UNB Saint John. She was awarded a UNB merit Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to UNB.

A Saint John native, Dr. Rinehart holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Psychology from UNB Saint John, an MBA from UNB Fredericton in Marketing and a PhD in Marketing from the University of Oklahoma.

As an academic, Dr. Rinehart has received recognition internationally for her teaching. She has published her research in a variety of journals, presented her work at national and international meetings and serves as a reviewer and/or on editorial boards for several journals and conferences. A lifelong learner, Dr. Rinehart continues to participate in professional development workshops and other educational opportunities.

Dr. Rinehart is an active member of the Saint John community. She is a past Chair of the Saint John YM-YWCA and sat on their capital campaign cabinet. She currently sits as Chair of the Research and Productivity Council and is a Board Member of the Saint John Port Authority. She also sits on the Executive Committee of Early Literacy Friends, chairs the judging panel for the Board of Trade Outstanding Business Awards and is a panel member for Alternative Measures. Dr. Rinehart has also sat Chair of the Board of Saint John Energy and also as Chair of the Audit Governance Committees.

In May 2018, Dr. Shelley Rinehart was honoured at the University of New Brunswick with the President’s Medal, which recognizes dedicated and distinguished service to the University and the community over many years.
