Emin Civi joined the Faculty of Business Administration in 2005 and is a member of the Marketing Area. He teaches Marketing Management, International Marketing, Retailing and International Business in the BBA program and International Marketing in the MBA program.

Prior to joining the University of New Brunswick, he taught at Celal Bayar University in Turkey. He has also been a Visiting Scholar at Michigan State University; United Arab Emirates University (UAEU); and Carnegie Mellon University of Qatar (CMUQ.

Dr. Civi’s academic interest areas are competitiveness of MNCs, emerging economies, internationalization of companies, born global companies, and the effects of accounting regulations.

His articles have appeared in the Thunderbird International Business Review, Journal of Management and Economics, Journal of Diversity Management, Journal of The International Business and Economics, Business and Finance, and Marketing Intelligence and Planning.

Emin Civi has been honoured by his students as well as nationally and internationally with several teaching awards. These include the Allan P. Stuart Award for Excellence in Teaching, a student-nominated award given to one UNB Saint John professor each year (2011; granted only once to an honouree); the 2016 Hormel Teaching Excellence Award from the Marketing Management Association (MMA) of the United States; and in 2015, the Excellence in Teaching and Educational Leadership from the Association of Atlantic Universities (AAU).

Dr. Civi was named UNB Teaching Scholar (2012 – 2015) in recognition of his contributions to the scholarship of teaching and for teaching excellence. He has published and makes presentations on effective teaching methods nationally and internationally and is the Coordinator for the Faculty of Business Teaching Colloquium.

In 2017, Dr. Civi’s dedication to promoting teaching excellence was recognized with the UNB Neil Scott Educational Leadership Award, and in June 2018, Emin Civi was honoured with the AAU Anne Marie MacKinnon Educational Leadership Award. This award, given to one outstanding educational leader in Atlantic Canada each year, recognizes a sustained commitment over an extended period to the improvement of university teaching and learning, within the nominee's own institution and beyond.

In February 2019, Emin Civi was named a 3M Teaching Fellow. The 3M National Teaching Fellowship is a prestigious national honour sponsored jointly by 3M Canada and the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. It is the only pan-Canadian, cross-disciplinary recognition of educational leadership and excellence in post-secondary teaching.

In March 2019, Emin Civi was honoured by his colleagues at UNB with the UNB Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes outstanding service, both at UNB and in the community.

Dr. Civi is Chair of the Board of Directors of the Saint John Multicultural and Newcomers Resource Center (SJMNRC) and an active community volunteer.
