Event Details:

Please mark your calendars for the second talk of our Fall 2025 Feminist Lunch Series to be given by Anna Jackson on Friday, Nov. 21 at 12:30 p.m. in Tilley Hall, Room 28 (basement), on UNB Campus in Fredericton.

This year our focus at the Feminist Lunches will be on all aspects of Women's Health with talks on a variety of topics of interest.

Jackson's talk is titled: "Navigating Nutrition in a Diet-Driven Culture”.

Abstract: In a society where dieting and wellness trends are often equated with health, understanding what balanced eating truly means has become increasingly complicated. This presentation explores how diet culture shapes our perceptions of food, body image, and self-worth, and how these influences can contribute to disordered eating patterns and eating disorders. We’ll examine the difference between health-promoting behaviours and harmful restriction, challenge common myths about “good” and “bad” foods and discuss how food can nourish both the body and mind to support overall wellbeing. This session aims to bring clarity and compassion to today's nutrition landscape, emphasizing nourishment, balance, and sustainable wellbeing over obsession or restriction.

Anna Jackson is a Registered Dietitian at the University of New Brunswick’s Student Health Centre, where she provides nutrition counselling to students in Fredericton and Saint John. She supports students with a wide range of nutrition concerns, from everyday eating and performance fuelling to disordered eating and eating disorder recovery. Anna earned her Bachelor of Science in Applied Human Nutrition from Mount Saint Vincent University and completed her clinical training at the IWK Health Centre. She has loved working with students at UNB for the past 10 years, helping them navigate the often complex relationship between food, health, and wellbeing. Anna’s approach is compassionate, evidence-based, and focused on helping students build confidence, balance, and a positive relationship with food and their bodies. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her dog Zephyr, running, and exploring new places and cuisines with her husband.

All are welcome! Light refreshments served.
