The community is invited to attend a special event that celebrates New Brunswick's rich history and cultural heritage.
Join us on Nov. 16, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Hans W. Klohn Commons on the University of New Brunswick’s (UNB) Saint John campus for the launch of the New Brunswick Black History Society Interactive Time-Walk Exhibit.
The New Brunswick Black History Society Interactive Time-Walk Exhibit is an experience that allows you to delve into Black New Brunswickers' history. This interactive exhibit will be displayed in the Hans W. Klohn Commons until the winter of 2024. Attendees will learn about the exhibit and discover the figures who played pivotal roles in New Brunswick's Black history.
The New Brunswick Black History Society is committed to researching, analyzing, documenting and preserving the province's Black history. This event is a testament to their dedication to sharing these stories with our community.
Speakers will include:
- Ralph Thomas – Co-founder & projects coordinator for the New Brunswick Black History Society and president of PRUDE Inc. Thomas was awarded the New Brunswick Human Rights Award in 2012. He received an honorary doctorate from the University of New Brunswick in 2019.
- Dr. Petra Hauf – UNB's vice-president Saint John and incoming provost and vice-president academic.
- Nadia Richards – UNB’s associate vice-president of human rights & equity.
This event celebrates New Brunswick's diverse cultural heritage. It serves as a platform for learning, unity and recognition. The event is open to the public and free to attend. Light refreshments will be provided.
