Monday Night Film Series presents MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON-FR
Event Details:
Feature adaptation of the animated short film interviewing a mollusk named Marcel. Special SUNDAY screening.
Marcel (Jenny Slate) is an adorable one-inch-tall shell who ekes out a colourful existence with his grandmother Connie (Isabella Rossellini) and their pet lint, Alan. Once part of a sprawling community of shells, they now live alone as the sole survivors of a mysterious tragedy. But when a documentary filmmaker (Dean Fleischer-Camp) discovers them amongst the clutter of his Airbnb, the short film he posts online brings Marcel millions of passionate fans — as well as unprecedented dangers and a new hope at finding his long-lost family.
Adapted from a trio of short stop-motion animations created by Slate and Camp in the 2010s, which spawned their own children’s books, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On gives a beloved character his big-screen debut. This hilarious and heartwarming story — featuring cameos from news personalities including Lesley Stahl and Brian Williams — is about finding connection in the smallest corners.
"Hilarious and extremely sweet... a feel-good movie that’s not like anything you’ve seen before." Alissa Wilkinson, Vox
"How can a film so disarmingly simple inspire deep feelings about loss, connection, and the meaning of family? I’m not sure I have the answer, but at a time when so many of us are feeling disoriented—or disconnected—a movie like this is especially welcome." Leonard Maltin
