MWC Presents Suzanne Greenlaw 'Wabanaki Plant Gathering'-FR
Event Details:
The Mi'kmaq-Wolastoqey Centre will be hosting a free, public presentation by Suzanne Greenlaw, a citizen of the Houlton Band of Maliseets and a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Maine School of Forest Resources. Greenlaw’s talk will be streamed live on our Facebook event page, linked below, and you can RSVP on that page to receive updates about the event as the date draws nearer.
The title of Greenlaw’s talk is “Wabanaki Plant Gathering in Acadia National Park: Mobilizing Indigenous Knowledge to Restore Traditional Sweetgrass Harvesting.”
Suzanne Greenlaw is an ethnobotanist focused on mobilizing Indigenous Knowledge and cultural practices to address Indigenous cultural resource issues such as reduced land access, invasive species planning, and restoration of traditional gathering practices. We are honoured to be hosting her presentation and excited to learn more about her work, which involves 14 Wabanaki sweetgrass gatherers and their families, along with biologists from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service, and seeks to understand the effects of harvesting practices on sweetgrass growth in Acadia National Park.
