On Wednesday, May 12, 2021, the Gregg Centre for the Study of War and Society on the University of New Brunswick’s Fredericton campus will host the annual Dominick S. Graham Lecture in War and Society. This free virtual event is open to the public and will take place between 7 and 8:30 p.m. through Teams.

During his lecture, titled “We Have it Here Too: Politics, Identity, Race and the Question of Far-Right Extremism in Atlantic Canada,” Dr. David Hofmann will present and discuss the results of an extensive scoping exercise undertaken by his research team that examined the breadth, depth, and extent of far-right extremism in Atlantic Canada. This research, which involved gathering and analyzing data on right-wing extremist incidents, groups, and individuals from 2000 to 2019, is part of a three-year study funded by Public Safety Canada and has been recently published in the journal Dynamics of Asymmetric Conflict.

Dr. David Hofmann is an associate professor of sociology at UNB Fredericton. He is the co-lead of the Network for Research on Hateful Conduct and Right-Wing Extremism in the Canadian Armed Forces, and a research fellow with the Gregg Centre. His funded research includes projects that examine the breadth and depth of Canadian right-wing extremism; the relationship between COVID-19 and the growth of right-wing extremism in Canada; and leadership in terrorist groups.
