Revelations: Selections from the UNB Permanent Collection - Episodes Online-FR and SJ
Event Details:
There are many hidden gems among the 2,300 works of art in the UNB Permanent Collection. Known as a “working” collection, it can be seen throughout the Fredericton and Saint John campuses. It brings the work of New Brunswick artists into daily life, both outdoors in the green spaces and indoors in the hallways, lounges, offices of the university. There are, however, some works which are rarely seen. Sometimes it is simply a lack of space, or it may be that the work is too fragile to display but sometimes it is the difficult subjects they present. This exhibit will include the works of many well-known and not so well-known New Brunswick artists.
Revelations elaborates on ideas that were developed through the production of ATTENDING THE APOCALYPSE an exhibition by Janice Wright Cheney and Jennifer Lee Wiebe which was set to open just as COVID-19 closed our doors. This exhibit became the UNB Art Centre’s first online exhibition. The second, Revelations, is designed to be seen online. Incubated during the COVID-19 lock down, it is curated using images of the collection from the database. It will unfold each week through a series of episodes released on the website and on social media.
Every Friday at 5 p.m. ADT, beginning May 29 through June 26, you are invited to enter UNB Art Centre Online and explore the East and West Galleries and see the latest release. We will also be speaking with some of the artists who produced these works.
The June 5th release is Danse Macabre featuring the work of Bruno Bobak, Brigid Toole Grant and Katie Kollwitz and Possession featuring Hazel Hatch.
The UNB Art Centre would like to gratefully acknowledge the support received from the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation for a 2020 Signature Grant and a COVID-19 Special Project Fund Grant from the Province of New Brunswick, Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage to support work being done to extend outreach through electronic or digital means.
The UNB Art Centre galleries at Memorial Hall on the UNB Fredericton campus are currently closed until further notice as a result of the COVID-19 emergency. Please follow our exhibits and programs online.
