Laura took her UNB chemistry degree, love of coffee and a memory of old shipping traditions to create a product never seen before: ocean air-infused coffee beans. Launched right here in NB, Saltwinds Coffee is an incredible example of our alumni doing more. Laura's company is expanding and bringing East Coast flavour to Sobeys across Canada, one cup of Joe at a time.
Growing up on the Pacific coast of British Columbia meant Cody's love of the ocean started young – fishing, camping and being out on the water with his family. After conducting field work and research on Canada's West and Arctic coasts, he's making a splash with advanced whale research here in New Brunswick. He and his team use satellites to track endangered right whales to better understand their behaviour and, in turn, help save the species.
Rafaella has always felt at home in the forest, whether in her native Brazil or her new home in New Brunswick. Together with her students, she's tackling climate change by studying the genetics of tree species to help forests thrive amidst ongoing changes. The Acadian and Boreal forests of New Brunswick provide a stunning backdrop for her research, ensuring they'll be here for generations to come.
Shelley Solomon and her daughters, Heaven and Dorian, were already educators when they discovered the Wabanaki Bachelor of Education—a program designed to empower participants to pass down knowledge and the traditions of Indigenous culture in their communities. They were among the first graduating class and have since gone on to further their training or take up roles teaching within their communities, promoting the celebration and learnings of Mi’kmaw and Wolastoqey languages and culture.
