Teaching Excellence award: Dr. Petrea Taylor joined the Faculty of Nursing in January 2020. She completed an Interdisciplinary PhD at UNB in May 2018. Her work focuses on mental health, particularly in the areas of suicide and violence. As an exceptional emerging scholar and a skilled clinician, she is embracing the scholarship of teaching and learning with her program of research on suicidality, mental health, and trauma and violence informed care. Her focus in on the development of interventions resources that are based on evidence from research in which she is a key contributor.
As a Registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse Specialist in mental health she brings expertise to the classroom. Her ability to apply her knowledge in both practice and education have been acknowledged by the Horizon Health Network Community Star Award (2014-2015) and the Faculty of Nursing Teaching Excellence Award 2020-2021. This teaching award was a nomination by her students in recognition of her passion for the mental well-being of individuals, families and communities. She is currently involved in the development of a Certificate in Mental Health Nursing designed to meet the goal of increasing access to mental health practitioners for the citizens of New Brunswick.
