Financial assistance

UNB CEL administers a program of scholarships and bursaries for part-time students at the UNB Fredericton campus.

Scholarships and bursaries for part-time students

Value:

  • $500

Conditions:

  • Part-time students enrolled in a degree, certificate or non-degree program at UNB Fredericton.
  • Completed at least 12 credit hours in their current program at UNB Fredericton.
  • Must not have been enrolled in full-time studies during the previous 12 months.

Availability/Application due:

  • Sept.-Dec. / Aug. 15
  • Jan.-April / Dec. 1
  • May-Aug. / April 1

Value:

  • $500

Conditions:

  • Part-time students enrolled in a degree or certificate program at UNB Fredericton.
  • Completed at least 12 credit hours in their current program at UNB Fredericton.
  • Must not have been enrolled in full-time studies during the previous 12 months.
  • Selection will be based on academic achievement. Financial need may be considered.

Value:

  • Variable

Conditions:

  • Female part-time student enrolled in degree or certificate program at UNB
  • Successfully completed at least 30 credit hours towards the academic program at UNB
  • Must be registered as a part-time student in a degree credit course(s) at the time of receipt of award
  • High academic performance
  • Financial need considered

Availability/Applications due:

  • 1 year
  • Students can receive one award per calendar year - may be renewed.
  • Deadline: August 15

Value:

  • Variable

Conditions:

  • Part-time students registered in courses in Family Violence Issues.
  • Preference is given to students enrolled in the Family Violence Issues Certificate Program.
  • Selection based on financial need and successful academic performance.

  • One per calendar year

Value:

  • $330

Conditions:

  • NB Resident working towards a BEd in Summer Term
  • High academic performance in the previous term and financial need

Value:

  • Approximate value of a 3 credit hour course

Conditions:

  • Resident of New Brunswick
  • Part-time UNB Fredericton campus student
  • Enrolled in a degree-credit program
  • Have completed at least 30 credit hours in the degree program
  • Must not have been enrolled in full-time studies during the previous fall or winter academic terms
  • Selection will be based on academic achievement and financial need

Availability/Applications due:

  • Sept.-Dec. / Aug. 15
  • Jan.-April / Dec. 1
  • May-Aug. / April 1

Value:

  • Min of $100 to max of $300 per course

Conditions:

  • Resident of NB for at least 12 consecutive months prior to application
  • Canadian citizen or landed immigrant not engaged in full-time studies at post-secondary institute during 12 consecutive months prior to application
  • Did not receive Scoudouc River award in the same calendar year
  • Major consideration given to the relationship of the applicant’s study plans to present employment or future career aspirations
  • Financial need
  • Enrolled in a post-secondary institution in NB (degree or non-credit program)

  • Sept.-Dec. / Aug. 15

Conditions:

  • Full and part-time undergraduate students
  • Completed at least year two of an academic program
  • Dean's list in the previous year - nominated by their faculty
  • Selection based on scholastic achievement and demonstrated involvement in extra-curricular and /or co-curricular activities

Applications due:

  • The application is available in myUNB (Scholarships, Prizes & Awards) from Sept. 1 to Oct. 30. Recipients are notified via email in January.

Value:

  • Variable

Conditions:

  • Awarded to students at the Fredericton campus
  • Must have completed at least 24 credit hours at UNB Fredericton in the previous academic year
  • Attending Summer Term
  • Selection based on scholastic achievement and financial need

  • Part-time undergraduate students enrolled in a degree or university certificate program at UNB Fredericton

  • Completed a minimum of 30 credit hours at UNB toward their academic program
  • Financial need and high academic performance

The deadline to apply for an award to be used in the Winter term is Dec. 1. You only need to apply once. After you submit your application, you will be considered for all UNB Fredericton part-time undergrad awards that you qualify for.

Apply for part-time awards

Occupational Health and Safety Award

This award is not included in the application for our UNB Fredericton undergraduate part-time awards and must be applied for separately.

The value of this award is variable but equal to the approximate value of a course from our Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or our Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.

We give out a maximum of five awards a year. Two are awarded in the winter, one in the summer, and two in the fall.

Students can apply at any time within the calendar year but deadlines to apply are:

  • Jan. 31 for winter
  • May 31 for summer
  • Sept. 30 for fall

Conditions:

  • Students must be enrolled in the Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety at UNB Fredericton.
  • Recipients must be residents of New Brunswick.
  • A student may hold no more than one Occupational Health and Safety Award within a calendar year.

The Federal Government offers two programs of financial assistance for part-time students:

  1. Canada Student Loan Program for part-time students
  2. Canada Study Grants for high-need part-time students and students with dependents
