Credit courses

The Centre for Musical Arts offers a Music Minor and a variety of credit offerings to enhance the musical knowledge of students at UNB.

Courses include traditional topics such as Music Theory, Music History, and Conducting, as well as more specialized classes like Women in Music (MUS3799), Music, Computers and Technology (MUS3113), and Music and Cinema (MUS3204).

Through the conservatory, you may take private lessons or participate in ensembles for credit.

Music minor

Our music minor is available to students from all faculties, providing an opportunity to study music from a variety of perspectives. You may focus on performance or history and appreciation based on your particular interest.

  • 24 total credit hours approved by the director of music
  • 12 of those music be upper level
  • At least one of the following theory based courses
    • MUS 2113, MUS 2114, MUS 2123, or MUS 2124
  • At least one of the following history based courses
    • HIST/MUS 3775, MUS 3785, MUS 3795, or MUS 3796

Ensembles for credit

We offer three options for ensembles to earn credit, Chorale, Concert Band, and the Fredericton Symphony Orchestra, all rehearsal at Memorial Hall once a week in the evening.

Singing in a choir is one of the most accessible and rewarding musical activities. This non-auditioned chamber choir is open to all advanced and novice choral singers from students, faculty, staff and the general public.

Performances

  • Concerts on campus, community events and a concert at the end of each semester.

A full wind, brass and percussion ensemble open to all students, staff and members of the community who plays a band instrument. Improve your playing and make rich musical experiences with peers.

Performances

  • Fall convocation, end of term concerts and in collaboration with the local community band.

No auditions are required. Some instruments are available for rent/loan.


The Fredericton Symphony is a community orchestra, which welcomes students. It performs various concerts throughout the year.
