About the instructor

Kimberly Bent studied Sociology at UNB and after a short stint conducting social research, she has spent her working career in museums and art galleries in Saint John and Fredericton. While at UNB, Kim enrolled in a studio course in weaving at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design as an antidote to writing a Master's thesis. Her interest in textiles, and yarn in particular, goes back to her early childhood when she learned from various family members and other caregivers how to make things with yarn and thread, through crochet, knitting, needlework and string art. Weaving has remained a mainstay for Kim for more than 15 years. More recently, Kim has explored other fibre techniques, such as felting. Kim has taught beginners weaving through the UNB Art Centre and the City of Fredericton's edVentures program. She is an active member of FAN (Fibre Arts Network) in Fredericton. Her work has been shown at the UNB Art Centre, the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, Gallery 78, and the Andrew and Laura McCain Gallery (Florenceville). Kim lives in Fredericton and works at Gallery 78. She plays with fibre whenever she can.
